Dare’s Connecticut office holds several events every year to either bring folks together or honor our foster parents for the noble work they do.
The Dare annual picnic is held every year in the warm weather at Nevers Park Pavilion in South Windsor, CT. About 100 Dare foster parents, foster children, and their friends and families attend. Everyone enjoys a variety of ethnic and specialty foods. Activities include a bounce house, face painting, sports and games, scavenger hunts, raffles and door prizes.
The Dare bowling party is held every year during December school vacation. All of our children in placement and our foster families’ children have a fun-filled afternoon with unlimited bowling and pizza.
Our Dare holiday party is held every December to celebrate the end of the year, the beginning of the New Year, and the holidays. All of our foster parents and their families attend and enjoy food prepared by the Dare staff.
We hold a foster parent appreciation day every May. The last few years we have entertained our parents at the Funny Bone comedy club with a daytime session and a catered lunch.
Regularly held trainings and support groups are the backbone of our support system for our foster families. Our large group trainings are held each month at the Dare office and take the place of the weekly groups. Dare’s clinical director, Dr. Steve Willis, and other outside experts provide these trainings to our families. Our weekly support groups are held in our Dare offices and are facilitated by the Dare case workers.
We train our prospective foster parents with the MAPP (Model Approach to Partnership in Parenting) curriculum as part of the approval process. We always have received positive feedback regarding the MAPP curricula as well as the competency of our trainers. Please check the calendar above for further information.
